Tune Of The Week: Danny Byrd - Planet Earth // Hospital Records

This is actually being given away this week on iTunes as Single Of The Week. And this is the Newsicmoos TUNE OF THE WEEK. Any coincidence? Or just great taste in music?

This tune has already been compared to The Prodigy's style and is one boing away 'Outer Space'. This I conclude is not a bad thing. It's bringing back those sounds of ravey jungle, allowing people like me to reignite those memories and allowing the youth of today to subscribe to their very own 'Outer Space' moment. Taken from latest album Rave Digger, a change in musical scope is here and expect it to be heard at any decent club near you this weekend... and many to come.

Big.

Enjoy.

Tune Of The Week: Tony Lionni - Precious (EP) // Freerange Records...

Here's one word for newcomer Tony Lionni: exciting. His music has been described as a combination of subtle Detroit techno and uplifting euphoria. Latest EP showcases the track 'Precious' which proves aforementioned theory; the intro is invitingly relaxed, projected by soulful uplifting synth that complements vocals by Marvin Belton. The intro leads you deep in to what is to come, a relaxed groove that evolves with accompaniment of a funky light bass drum and bleeps that set off the sluggishly lustful tone. It completely slots in nicely with the Freerange sound, befriending the tone of such acts like Jimpster, Shur-I-Kan and Milton Jackson. If you love this tune as much as we do here then keep an eye out for upcoming album released on October 11th. And to top it all off? He's a fellow Mancunian. Hoorah!

Sit back, relax, and dedicate the next six and a half minutes to this beaut.

Tune Of The Week: Tensnake - Coma Cat // Defected Records

This tune has had plenty of coverage, throughout Ibiza, back in Miami, radio play and clubs everywhere, even in this blog a week or so ago. See, everywhere. Now it's released I hope for a UK top ten entry. Wishful thinking possibly, but for all the right reasons. Massive.

Enjoy.

And we're really feelin' this 'Treasure Fingers' remix at Newsicmoos!

Tune Of The Week: Maddslinky feat Omar - Special

Maddslinky, more popularly known as Zed Bias, releases this soulful house beaut this week, featuring vocals from Omar. Bias is known for his penchant for providing vocal house that reflects a bit deeper than the average and this track is no different. Not to say that it lacks creativity or oomph, but subscribes to the Maddslinky brand. 'Special' is the first single from upcoming and much anticipated October album Make A Change - the lyrics are of overcoming obstacles and of achieving in life, spread smoothly over a UK funky bass line. What a TUNE OF THE WEEK!

As always, Newsicmoos are up on the remixes and the first one is by Toddla Toddla T. He injects a dirtier bassline with less emphasis on the soulful vocals. A very cool remix.

Released: 13th September 2010

Tune Of The Week: Dead Prez & WTF!? - It's Bigger Than Hip Hop UK

There are some records that define an era: Stevie Wonder’s 'Superstition' for the funky 70s, Michael Jackson’s 'Thriller' for the pumped-up, dog-eat-dog 80s, Dr. Dre’s 'The Chronic' for the weed-filled 90s. Some might argue - with reason - that the soundtrack for the early naughties was the hip hop classic Its Bigger Than Hip Hop by Dead Prez. It was loud, in-your-face, black punk that shook both the dancefloors and our preconceptions of hip hop’s social nihilism at a time when Eminem was rapping about a suicidal stalker called Stan.

It is therefore of no surprise to me to find that ten years after its original release, someone has tried to resurrect this timeless classic for the modern era. WTF?! (drum and bass duo Adam F and Fresh) have attempted such a feat, turning the track into a dubstep anthem. The result is a skewered mix of original vocals, wonky bass and smash-and-grab drums that have left many fans polarized.

WTF?! haven’t reinvented the wheel, they’ve simply taken the best bits from an unbeatable track and beefed them up for a newer, younger crowd. But who cares when the beats are this heavy?
Enjoy!

Tune Of The Week: Die & Interface feat William Cartwright - Bright Lights (Knee Deep Remix)

You've probably all heard the original to this tune. Or you should have, it's been around a few times. Quite a bike of a tune, if I may. It's become synonymous with soulful drum and bass tracks, and now a few extra remixes have added new levels to their supremacy. Toolroom Records are, I'm sure, proud to present their 200th release and the Newsicmoos stand out remix is by Knee Deep, the masters of soulful embellishment. Also check out the Mark Knight & Sidney Samson remixes.
En-bloody-joy!

Tune Of The Week: Zed Bias feat Jenna G - Show Some Appreciation

Dave Jones, aka Zed Bias, has been instrumental in the forthcoming of dubstep, as well as pioneering a progressive 2-step garage sound. Along with Jenna G, this latest single release gives us a little teaser of what to expect on his newest album to be released some time later in the year under his alter ego Maddslinky. Much like previous release 'Sound Of Love', there's a soulful element to his simplistic house in the undertones balanced out by the use of deep synth separating beats. This is newsicmoos stand out track of the week. And below is a Maddslinky remix, a bit more upbeat and ready for the dancefloor.

Enjoy!

Tune Of The Week: Zinc feat Jamie George - Love To Feel This Way

Zinc has released volume 2 of his Crack House legacy this week, and what a stomper it is. 'Crack' house is a newly coined genre by Zinc - one which agitates giddyness and detaches limbs from body in reflex to project all sorts of impossible and made up shapes. This latest offering makes you do just that. Lose ya limbs! Track 1 is popular: 'Nexx' demostrates the perfectly infectious nature of crack house where Zinc knows how to make a drop count. Not too dissimilar from 'Blunt Edge', but cool stuff. And track 2, 'Let's Go', featuring JME has catchy vocals that slot in nicely alongside the dirty whompwhomp of a stompstomp. Overall Zinc, a pretty decent summer release. Stand out track though is newsicmoos TUNE OF THE WEEK! - 'Love To Feel This Way' featuring vocals from Jamie George (of Roska's 'Wonderful Day'). This tune has a sinister undertone with an opposing uplifting vibe that can't help but slap a smile across your cracked up face.

Enjoy.

Tune Of The Week: L-Vis 1990 - Into The Stars

L-vis 1990 - Into The Stars by Discotetris

The smashing tune above is taken from L-Vis 1990's latest EP, Forever You. It allows for a relaxed tune that could double over on to the dancefloor, with it's house dub beat, random yet endearing bleepy noises and space-like intro. It's easy to listen to and could quite possibly be L'vis's best tune of yet!

Get on it people!

Enjoy.

Tune Of The Week: James Blake - CMYK EP

James Blake released his EP a month ago with a sound so astral, atmospheric and sometimes a little bit grimy. There's no doubt as to why he's fronting remixes for prolific electronic music gods; he has a way of breaking apart a flow but keeping in tact an elevating manner. I'm sure there's more to come from Blakey yet!

Tune Of The Week: Nalin & Kane - Beachball (Joris Voorn Remix) & Pete Tong's Wonderland Album 2010

The man Tong is back with a tale of a land bathed in wonder. Not only is his latest compiled instalment a testiment to good fidgety house, it also provides me with a link to the tune of the week. First is a foursome who released the tune below, Stop And Stare, in mid-April and have been touring the UK and Europe incessently. Claiming critical commendation and a summer of festivals lined up (including Creamfields, V Festival and The Secret Garden Party), Fenech-Soler are the new breed in electro-pop funk, with sounds much crisper than the likes of The Klaxons and Friendly Fires.

For more info check out their MySpace.

Tune Of The Week!
With Ibiza licking every second of this tune, it's hard to resist it's beach-worn atmos and extremely chilled vibe, with a view to becoming a beach house classic. Joris Voorn takes this Suprefly Records steamer and liquifies it.

Enjoy.

Tune Of The Week: Sbtrkt - Soundboy Shift

This is a release of epic proportions, rousing in me the same excitable amazement that Joy Orbison did last year. Sbtrkt (MySpace) is sneaking through his breakthrough statusand I'm sure is set to be everywhere soon. So much so, you won't escape him. Not that you'd want to.

Enjoy.

Tune Of The Week: James Talk & Ridney - Forever

This post probably provides a little too much promotion for Pete Tong and his Essential Tune, with it's branding slapped across the face of the above YouTube video. Like the world doesn't know him and his "essential tune" already? No, I'm not bitter!

Though this tune was released a couple of months ago, it is now that I'm posting it because the momentum behind the popularity is in the airwaves. It's summertime vibe, only applicable to people on holiday at the moment, along with a repetitive mantra of 'We'll live forever' provides a platform for meditation. Or, maybe it just reflects a young man's attempts of clinging to an everlasting youth.

Either way, I'm sure it conjures up memories for house heads who remember the original. And it's nice to see Ridney is all over the place too.

The summer is nearing and the festivals are calling. Let's get this party started!

Enjoy.

Tune Of The Week: Ridney - At Night

Defected puts forth another little blinding debut release from a guy who has been storming the house scene over the past couple of years. Here, Ridney delivers a dancefloor winner incorporating twisty echoes of synth build ups and a happy clapping, infectious beat, bouncing sounds of a deeper side of Deadmau5 and Josh Wink's 'A Higher State Of Consciousness'.

Sure to be a hit on peak time dance floors, we shall await Ridney's next instalment.

Enjoy.

Tune Of The Week: Wiley - Take That / Wiley feat Emeli Sande - Never Be Your Woman

Wiley's single 'Take That' was released at the end of December last year and stirs up a love-hate response within me. I find the chorus overbearing and repetitive, a defiant message to all of those who 'thinks he can't do it anymore' - is this the workings of a man who is responding to a bit of slander? And the tune is based upon his visit to a Bedford nightclub where he saw a member of the group Take That. Nice, catchy inspiration.

What I do respect is his return to the kind of production that fits in well with today and the fact that he's been here for 15 years is enough for us to know that his talent is continously being strengthened. I'd prefer to hear a lyricless version when out raving, as the dirty electro beat is enough to get the feet stomping.

However, he is receiving much critical acclaim for 'Take That' and I completely understand why. He observes the rules of a dirty electro bassline along with fierce lyrics and balances that somewhat with an upcoming release of his -which is more my cup of chai. Wiley collaborates with Emili Sande for a second time, previously having worked together alongside Chipmunk & Kano on the UK number 1 track 'Diamond Rings'. In their latest offering, the chorus sang by up-and-coming soulstress Sande is cut from White Town's huge hit 'Your Woman' and slots together with Wiley's rap as a dialogue of banter between two opposing sides. 'Never Be Your Woman' subscribes to a UK funky sound, with a rolling, bouncy house beat and soulful percussion - a perfect progression in the UK urban/funky scene.

Wiley's noticeable attribute that fairs well in such an interchangeable music scene is his ability to successfully weave in and out of the very structures of differing urban genres and for that I salute.

This below is the Solo's Love Garage remix and my CHAOON of the week.

Enjoy.

If you like this, check out the original and Herve's remix.

Tune Of The Week: Deadmau5 & Kaskade - Move For Me

Why has it taken so long for this track to be released?
Legendary producers combine their powers once again as Kaskade reunite with omnipresential Deadmau5 (or already did do many full moons ago) to release another house floorfiller. This, the first single released from Kaskade's critically acclaimed album Strobelite Seduction, captures the freedom of dancing with a strobe-masked stranger after a gruelling week at work where daydreams of escaping the mundane are a common use of wage earning time. While Kaskade showcase the sultry, cohesive side to this production, Deadmau5 projects his minimal house beat and signature uplifting synths, merging together their talents to form a slick and smooth finish. Following the massive 2009 release 'I Remember', fans may find this track a step down, nevertheless it is still a commercially viable radio pleaser.

Enjoy.
