Single/EP: Bonobo featuring Andreya Triana - Stay The Same

Bonobo returns. Soak up this sunshine and chill. Andreya Triana is becoming the ethereal vocal to sample, proof in various airy and open tunes. Some tunes are designed to awaken the senses, and others are there simply to accompany the passing by of the inevitable tick-tocking.

Enjoy.

Link: South Africa's version of dance.

Even though England managed to live up to their lifeless expectations, World Cup fever has left us with a little something to bring back to Blighty. This is a little example of South Africa's take on dance music. As stated in the article, This is the cheetah of African music.

Enjoy!

Link: LA Raving --- Electric Daisy Festival

I'm British. So, it's my job to say we produce some of the finest festivals, and it's not like there isn't a fair share of proof: Creamfields, Global Gathering, Glastonbury. Yes. Be proud, UK.

But this is a blog post that I found from LAWeekly's website about The Electric Daisy Carnival.

EP: Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs - All In Two Sixty Dancehalls

Believe it or not, there's a certain expectation of sillyness upon first hearing their name: Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs (MySpace page - worth visiting just for the list of dinosaur influences) or TEED. Yes, there is a playful, light-hearted element to his new EP, found in the upbeat musical style of 'Garden', which sounds like a Calvin Harris-Joy Orbison replicate, a sort of relaxed disco-dubstep amalgamation. The conversational narrative between a couple balances out the upbeat music and adds a touch of introspective depth. 'Blood Pressure' is more of a dancefloor pleaser, subscribing to a fidgety electro house bass roll that takes inspiration from dancehall and sounds like an Ayia Napa goldmine - a sound that is all so popular at the moment. Top advice in the lyrics too: "Prehistoric ting, rude bwoy." Damn straight. Overall, a very quirky, post-historic release that doesn't lose its credible enormity through experimental production.

Enjoy.

Album: Blue Six - Noesis

Blue Six, famed for the Music & Wine release circa 1999, releases this beauty of return album called Noesis. The producer from New York, also known as Jay Denes, maintains the sultry, bed time feel to his latest release, where procreation seems to be smitten in the afterthought of each of the tracks. Stand out track 'One More Night' helps in the release of biological fragrance and subscribes to the overall sexy grooves, lustful atmosphere and terrace cocktails ethos. Nu disco, soulful house, loungey bar - call it what you will, let us use it to get bare in an emotive overspill. Or, just get it awn ;)

Single: Medison featuring Skrein - Harry

Medison - Harry Feat. Skrein (Bare Noize Remix) by TFA

Medison is an East London producer that started off his DJ'ing career at the end of the 90's, eventually producing years later and working with a host of urban names. This tune is deceptively chilled, incorporating a higher pitch of vocal that is proving popular at the moment, yet I urge you dubstep fiends to wait for the durty drop. Remix brought to you by Bare Noize. And remember, a spoonful of dirtballs helps the Medison go down ;)

Album: Rennie Foster - Blood Sugar

Rebirth (MySpace page) are elevating another underground artist with niche capabilities, Rennie Foster. Previous to this, the label established itself in 2006 by Shield and has since released the stirring 'Finest Dream' by And If with the awe-inspiring Martin Luther King speech as a reminder of the power of music and politics together. This below is the Will Pezzetti mix.

And if - Finest dream (Will Pizzetti Freedom Edit) by DJ Will Pizzetti

Another indication as to what Rebirth has brought forth is a melancholic number by NUfrequency with vocals by Shara Nelson of the 'Unfinished Sympathy' legacy, with a video that resembles that of Massive Attack's. Strange choice? This below is remixed by Charles Webber.

And now Rennie Foster releases an epic album this week entitled Blood Sugar. It moves from track one, 'Invoke', which deploys random and offset beats that play against a demanding backing track accompanied by satisfyingly innapropriate piano use; to tracks that employ a minimalistic take on house, such as 'Your Eyes', 'Vital Organ' and 'Roughshod'. There is an erratic use of live instrumentation throughout the album, which complements an overall distortedly picturesque take on electronic music. The newsicmoos stand out track is handed to 'Afrocentrik', posted below.

EP: Calibre - Judgement Day EP

This one has to have a mention today. An introspective piece of realness. Other tracks on the EP include 'Thrust', 'Don't Want Your Love' and 'Jungle One'. This one below is the stand out. While you're figuring out when your judgment day is (harsh), do so whilst listening to drum and bass ledge Calibre. Much love.

Culture: Factory Records city walk.

Fancy taking a stroll down Raver's End? Take a little mosey on down to Madchester Beginnings? Well, now, you kind of can. Urbis has put together a Factory Records city walk to commemorate and celebrate the significant influence that era had on the world's clubbing scene and how it set the standards for a hedonistic future. The walk will stop off at the Free Trade Hall, the site of the original Hacienda nightclub, MICC (formerly G-Mex) and Factory HQ. Most club-enthusiasts or home-bred Mancunians will already know the story and could possibly have visited when the tour took place in March this year before a screening of 24 Hour Party People at The Cornerhouse, but it's a fitting gift to a time Manchester is oh so proud of.

It begins on 19/6/2010 (tomorrow) and continues for a fair few weeks. Enough time to dedicate some time. More info here.

Peace.

Single: Dennis Ferrer - Hey Hey. BUY NOW!

Did you hear her say..HEY HEY, come buy my record and support quality house music!

Though this anthem has been circulating club world for a fair few months now, it is only this week that Ferrer's 'Hey Hey' gets an official release. Could this be one of few genuinely good house tracks that could smash the single charts this week? We'll have to wait and see. For now, another remix of this timeless piece of genius.

Enjoy.

Release date: 11th June 2010
Label: Defected Records Ltd under exclusive licence from Objektivity.

If you like this, check out the Crookers remix here. Here you will find Ferrer's Myspace (well worth checking out) where you can view another cheeky video of him droppin' this tune at the Winter Music Conference in Miami, proving its massive effect on the global dance scene.

Tune Alert: Analog People In A Digital World vs Tim Deluxe feat Sam Obernik - It Just Won't Do

A young Tim Deluxe set Ibiza alight with his 2002 hit 'It Just Won't Do', which is remembered for the spreading of joy it did so well and a music video that was delightfully naked. Sorry ladies - we can't escape the truth. Though dance music singles don't generally attract too many sales, it's the lasting impression that a DJ's musical creation leaves that really matters. It was Deluxe himself that under the moniker of Double 99 allowed ravers to get down and dirty to 'RIP Groove', which still leaves an impression today. Now, Analog People In A Digital World (APDW) have turned 'It Just Won't Do' upside down; it emphasises the shepherd-like trumpet to new levels and produces a bass heavy samba appetiser sutiable for a Space dancing session. Be proud APDW, be proud. With a vocal so alluring it's annoying, Sam Obernik finishes off this sure to be Ibizan hit.

Enjoy.

Flashback: Claude VonStroke - Who's Afraid Of Detroit?

The Dirtybird label has been smashing out some fine ass chewns since 2003, and this is a tune in 2006 that put VonStroke (Barclay Crenshaw) on the house map. From humble Detroit beginnings, VonStroke released Bird Brain in 2009 and a Dirtybird collaborative compilation earlier this year. Big tings are still expected.

Tune Of The Week: Nalin & Kane - Beachball (Joris Voorn Remix) & Pete Tong's Wonderland Album 2010

The man Tong is back with a tale of a land bathed in wonder. Not only is his latest compiled instalment a testiment to good fidgety house, it also provides me with a link to the tune of the week. First is a foursome who released the tune below, Stop And Stare, in mid-April and have been touring the UK and Europe incessently. Claiming critical commendation and a summer of festivals lined up (including Creamfields, V Festival and The Secret Garden Party), Fenech-Soler are the new breed in electro-pop funk, with sounds much crisper than the likes of The Klaxons and Friendly Fires.

For more info check out their MySpace.

Tune Of The Week!
With Ibiza licking every second of this tune, it's hard to resist it's beach-worn atmos and extremely chilled vibe, with a view to becoming a beach house classic. Joris Voorn takes this Suprefly Records steamer and liquifies it.

Enjoy.

Tune Of The Week: Sbtrkt - Soundboy Shift

This is a release of epic proportions, rousing in me the same excitable amazement that Joy Orbison did last year. Sbtrkt (MySpace) is sneaking through his breakthrough statusand I'm sure is set to be everywhere soon. So much so, you won't escape him. Not that you'd want to.

Enjoy.

Guetta Blaster - David Guetta's big ambition.

David Guetta is being talked about in The Guardian. Check out a feature on his world domination here.

And, this was something I stated last year in this post.

Tune alert: Saeed Younan - Yeah Ha.

As mentioned in the last post, my search for Ibizan tunes is awn! I think I'm a little late to join in the bounce of this tune. Then again, it's never too late to fall in love, huh? ;)

You can check out Saeed's website by clicking on the word website.

Enjoy.

Knee Deep in Ibiza bliss.

So, contrary to the previous year's attempt of 'taking a break' from Ibiza, it seems I'm off there again. Well, in my defense, what self-respecting raver can ever turn their back on Ibiza? That's like turning down a lifetime subscription to...Nutella.
Just me?

Although I'm venturing back to the holy land, this time it will feel like a fleeting visit. Thus, in pure childish excitement at the thought of being surrounded by ravers in the sun, the search for Ibizan tunes is on. It's self-gratifying, and to some possibly quite sad, for me to scope like I've never scoped before and predict tunes I'm likely to hear as well as tunes that I won't be able to escape.

The tune below has a beach-covered feel to it, perfect for complementing the mini daydreams within my mind depicting sunny days ahead. And with a vocal, that seems as though it's very purpose is to relax the after party brain of an Ibizan mash head, is from the delightful Cathy Battistessa. Knee Deep in Ibizan bliss.

This tune is creation: Michel Cleis - La Mezcla (Riva Starr Mojito Remix)

And so this anthemic soul-tugger of a tune returns in its many forms with this particular remix fronted by the man who seems to be in every dancing crevis at the moment: Riva Starr.

This is simply Michel Cleis featuring Toto La Mompasina with 'La Mezcla'. Riva Starr's handy work projects the original's tribal feeling and adds a carnival bounce, set for any party, any time, anywhere. Welcome back, oh life-affirming tune.

Big.
